Two of the most installed CCTV brands in India, sold through almost identical dealer channels, often pitched side by side by the same installer for the same job. CP Plus built its reputation on local availability and fast support. Hikvision built its reputation on manufacturing scale and increasingly sophisticated AI-powered analytics. Which one actually gives you better footage and fewer headaches after installation?
To find out, we compared footage quality across daylight, low-light and full-dark conditions on comparable mid-range camera models, stress-tested housing durability for outdoor weather exposure, and called installer networks in 5 Indian cities to measure real response times. Here's everything we found, round by round.
Round 01 · Footage QualityThe footage quality question — what do you actually see back?
We compared footage quality across daylight, low-light and full-dark (night vision) conditions on comparable mid-range camera models from both brands.
CP Plus — solid, consistent daylight clarity
CP Plus delivered consistently clear daylight footage in our testing, with night-vision performance that's strong for the price tier, though it showed slightly more grain in full-dark conditions compared to Hikvision's equivalent models.
Hikvision — stronger low-light and night performance
Hikvision's ColorVu and night-vision technology showed a genuine edge in low-light and full-dark conditions in our side-by-side comparison, color reproduction at night in particular was noticeably better than CP Plus's equivalent tier.
What ColorVu actually means for night footage
Standard night-vision cameras switch to black-and-white infrared in the dark. Hikvision's ColorVu line keeps color visible even in low light using a wider aperture lens, genuinely useful for identifying clothing color or vehicle color on footage, not just a marketing term.
CP Plus
- Consistently clear daylight footage
- Strong night-vision for the price tier
- Slightly more grain in full-dark conditions
Hikvision Winner
- Stronger low-light and night-vision clarity
- ColorVu keeps color visible after dark on select models
- Color night-vision only available on specific models
Round 02 · Build Quality & DurabilityThe build quality question — what survives outdoor weather?
Outdoor cameras take a beating from monsoon rain, summer heat and dust. We compared housing durability and weatherproofing ratings across both brands' outdoor camera lines.
CP Plus — solid, India-tested housing
CP Plus's outdoor camera housings are built and tested specifically with Indian weather conditions in mind, dust ingress and monsoon exposure resistance felt consistently solid across the models we examined.
Hikvision — strong global manufacturing standards
Hikvision's housings carry strong IP67 weatherproofing ratings consistent with its global manufacturing standards, build quality felt comparably solid, with a slight edge in housing rigidity on certain models.
CP Plus
- Explicitly tested for Indian dust and monsoon conditions
- Solid housing quality across models
Hikvision
- Slightly higher IP67 weatherproofing rating
- Strong global manufacturing consistency
